Halloween events in Cornwall (for October half term)

Are you heading down to Cornwall this Halloween?

Whether you’re planning an Autumnal trip or live in the Duchy, there are tonnes of spooky events to enjoy right here this October!

Most of these are perfect for families, but many are suitable for adults without kids as well.

Here’s what’s going on in Cornwall this October!

The Dark Gathering

  • Date and time: Saturday before Halloween (26th October 2024)
  • Location: Tintagel, Cornwall (previously held in Boscastle)
  • Costs: £22

On the Saturday before Halloween, Tintagel becomes the setting for the Dark Gathering – a celebration of folklore and tradition that marks the shift from summer to winter.

At the gathering, you’ll witness dynamic performances, including Morris dancers and the legendary meeting of the Welsh Mari Lwyds and Cornish Oss, Penkevyll.

This year, the event takes a special turn with Day of the Dead rituals by the Mexican group Takam. They’ll be creating three altars for adults, children, and pets, with a ceremonial dance to honour ancestors.

Halloweden at the Eden Project

Get ready for a half-term packed with creepy-crawly action and icy thrills at Halloweden.

Step into the Minibeast Show, where you can get up close with giant African snails and tarantulas.

No need to book for this one – just drop by and face your fears!

The Bug Fair will keep the family entertained with spider slingshots, snail racing, and hands-on crafts.

For a unique adventure, head into the Rainforest Biome on a safari to spot giant cardboard creatures hidden in the tropical undergrowth.

And don’t forget, Cornwall’s only ice rink is back—time to lace up your skates and add a bit of sparkle to the season.

No booking required for the shows, but it’s best to pre-book your Eden admission tickets for a smoother entry.

Newquay Zombie Crawl

  • Date and time: Saturday 26th October 2024, 12pm (Zombie Crawl starts at 3pm)
  • Costs: Free to participate
  • Ticket information: No booking required
  • Starting location: Sydney Road (next to Sainsbury’s), Newquay

On Saturday 26th October 2024, the streets of Newquay will come alive (kind of?) with the Newquay Zombie Crawl.

Activities begin at 12pm, with the main parade kicking off at 3pm from Sydney Road.

It’s exactly what it sounds – a zombie crawl and parade – you’re encouraged to wear gruesome costumes and professional makeup artists will be on hand to transform attendees into the walking dead.

Pre-parade, you’ll find dance workshops to warm up for the procession (get ready to shuffle!) and then there’s an after-party at Steam Bar.

Trick or Treat Week at Flambards

  • Date and time: Saturday 26th October – Sunday 3rd November 2024
  • Location: Flambards, Helston, Cornwall
  • Costs: Standard park admission applies (includes access to all Halloween activities)
  • Ticket information: Check the on-site entertainment board for specific daily details

Flambards is getting into the spooky spirit with Trick or Treat Week at half term. Get ready for Halloween fun that’s perfect for all ages, with activities like the Spooky Pumpkin Hunt, where kids can search for hidden pumpkins and solve a Halloween puzzle.

Throughout the week, look out for special performances like the Emazdad Magic Show, Crazy Chris’s Halloween Party, and live music leading up to the spectacular Fireworks Spooktacular on 30th October. Free face painting is also available to get you ready for the spooky celebrations.

Creative activities such as Creepy Crafts run on the last few days, and the week is packed with entertainment for the whole family. Be sure to check the daily schedule on-site for times and locations.

Healeys Cyder Farm

Healeys Cyder Farm has plenty of special events lined up for autumn, starting with Torchlight Night on 7th September. Brave the dark and explore the farm by torchlight for an evening adventure.

From 19th October to 31st October, families can hop on the haunted Vintage Tractor Ride to the Pumpkin Patch, where you can pick and carve pumpkins in the spooky Rattler Bar.

Or try the Halloween Maze of Horrors on 26th October – not for the faint-hearted, with live actors, fire jugglers, and plenty of scares.

There’s also Healey’s guided tours of the farm – these are focused on the cider production and are recommended for adults only.

Trerice

  • Costs: Free event (standard Trerice admission charges apply but if you’re a National Trust member you get in for free)

Trerice is bringing dragon-themed fun to its Halloween half-term from 26th to 31st October. Families are invited to come dressed in their best Halloween costumes and enjoy a range of activities centred around mythical creatures.

Kids can attend the Trerice Dragon School, where they’ll learn how to “train their dragons” and listen to storytelling sessions filled with tales of magical creatures.

Halloween at Bodmin Jail

Step into the dark history of Bodmin Jail this October with a variety of Halloween-themed paranormal tours and events.

Explore the haunted halls on The Ghost Walk or dive deeper into the jail’s supernatural side with the more intense After Dark experience, running on Fridays and Saturdays.

These paranormal tours, featuring real-life ghost stories and live actors, range from 90 minutes to several hours.

For those seeking a unique challenge, the Basement Challenge and the exclusive Beyond the Veil experience on 31st October offer the ultimate in supernatural encounters.

Families can also enjoy self-guided tours with access to the Haunted Gallery, perfect for exploring at your own pace. The Halloween fireworks show on 31st October adds a festive touch to this spooky season.

Newquay Halloween Trail

  • Location: Newquay town centre, starting at Visit Newquay Tourist Information Centre, Marcus Hill
  • Costs: Free to participate
  • Ticket information: No booking required; pick up a trail map at the Tourist Information Centre

The Newquay Halloween Trail is a family-friendly Halloween adventure throughout Newquay town centre during October half term week.

Starting at the Visit Newquay Tourist Information Centre, you can pick up a trail map and follow the clues to discover hidden Halloween characters around town.

Once you’ve found all five hidden scenes, enjoy a small Halloween treat at the end of your trail!

Halloween Half-Term at Pendennis Castle

Get ready for a bewitching Halloween at Pendennis Castle.

This family-friendly event includes spooky storytelling sessions where children will hear tales of ghostly encounters and eerie folklore, all set against the atmospheric backdrop of this historic Falmouth landmark.

Afterwards, kids can take part in the Halloween Quest around the castle grounds.

Hunt for hidden clues, solve spooky puzzles, and become a Halloween Hero!

It’s an interactive and fun way for families to enjoy the history and mystery of Pendennis Castle.

Entry is free for English Heritage members, with standard admission prices for non-members.

Cornish Maize Maze

There’s something for all ages at the Cornish Maize Maze this autumn!

In October, the family-friendly Pumpkin Picking and Halloween Maze runs (dates above).

Take part in pumpkin picking followed by a Halloween-themed maze – this is ideal for younger children. Expect to see the usual farm animals along the way!

Or, head to the Halloween Maze of Horrors on 26th October features live scare actors, fire jugglers, and spine-chilling scenes.

This event is aimed at older children and adults, with parental discretion advised!

The 15-minute maze experience promises to be one of the scariest highlights of the season.

Pre-booking is required for all events (click here), with the timed entry system helping to manage queues for the Halloween Maze of Horrors.
