Newquay’s beach street food market is now open in the winter!

With white-sand beaches, surfing and coasteering opportunities and a distinct “holiday” atmosphere, Newquay’s often touted as one of the best places in the country for a beach break.

And, while it’s often heralded as a summer destination, there are plenty of reasons why you should visit the Cornish town throughout the seasons – yes, even in winter.

The coastline stays beautiful in the cooler months, and one of the best ways you can savour the season is to head down to Boathouse – Street Food on the Beach which is staying open!

What is Boathouse – street food on the beach?

A close-up of a rustic wood-fired pizza topped with mushrooms and herbs alongside a bowl of golden fries sprinkled with parmesan and served with a side of ketchup.

Boathouse is Newquay Harbour’s street food market.

Gazing over the harbour sands and boats gently bobbing on the water, this is a collection of street food stalls, each specialising in something different.

Guests can take a seat and order whatever they desire – it’s perfect for groups who can’t decide where they want to eat, as everyone can choose a different cuisine and still dine together!

I’ve visited Boathouse twice.

The first time I had tacos and ramen (I just couldn’t decide between them!) and the second opted for a vegan curry and flatbread while my partner had pizza and parmesan topped fries. There are also donuts available for dessert from the donut van!

There’s also a fully stocked bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

How it works

To make an order, simply take a seat and scan the QR code. Select what you want – all stalls are available on the website. There’s no need to get up to go to the stall – it will be brought to your table.

For drinks, you’ll need to pop to the bar.

The space

A peaceful harbor scene at dusk, with several colorful boats anchored in calm waters and charming hillside houses in the background against a soft, pastel sky.

The seating area looks over the harbour, with indoor and outdoor dining. The indoor dining area is limited, but as Newquay is quite quiet over the winter months, you should be able to find a space.

Olla Hiki Sauna

If the food and location wasn’t enough to entice you, Boathouse is also home to a resident sauna until January!

Book a slot at the Olla Hiki Sauna and visit before or after your food – if the tide is in, you could even take a dip in the harbour’s waters (everyone is responsible for their own safety if swimming).
