THREE Cornwall beaches where you CANNOT take your dog (year round)
Dog owners across Cornwall have had some good news this week!
The last batch of seasonal beach restrictions lifted on 30th September, meaning dogs are now free to roam at all hours on many of Cornwall’s Blue Flag beaches, including St Ives’ Porthminster and Porthmeor, Sennen and Polzeath all hours of the day!
BUT, not all beaches in Cornwall are dog-friendly. If you’re visiting the Hayle area over autumn and winter and bringing a pet, you should know this!
The 3 beaches where dogs are banned all year round
There are three beaches that are banned to dogs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
This is due to Cornwall Council’s Public Spaces Protection Order.
They are:
- Carnsew Pool, Hayle — banned to dogs all year, 24 hours a day
- Copperhouse Pool, Hayle — banned to dogs all year, 24 hours a day
- Hayle Estuary, Hayle — banned to dogs all year, 24 hours a day
This is generally due to wading birds and other wildlife in the Hayle estuary, whereas the other beach bans are due to overcrowding.
Are the rest of Cornwall’s beaches open to dogs?

Yes! There’s a group of beaches that have seasonal bans from 15th May to 30th September 10am – 6pm and that ban was lifted this week. Another group of beaches have a seasonal dog ban from 1st July – 31st August.
There is one other restriction
Summerleaze Beach in Bude is open to all dogs now – but from 21st May – 30th September, 10am – 6pm, they must be on a lead.
Check before you go
Some privately owned beaches run their own rules on top of the council’s, so do always check before you go!
