Newquays new sauna promises relaxation in the surf town

Spent a while at Newquay’s beaches, surfing or coasteering? Need somewhere to soothe your muscles and relax?

Saunassa is the answer. Set back from Great Western Beach, it’s a complex of saunas, hot tubs and plunge pools in a relaxed setting.

Here’s what you need to know!

The facilities

A warm, inviting hot tub surrounded by a wooden fence, with two chimneys extending above, under a clear sky with a few plants adding a touch of greenery.

Saunassa, which opened in February 2024, is set in a courtyard, with one freestanding sauna, two hot tubs, two cold plunge pools and one room temperature pool.

Inside, there are changing facilities, lockers, pegs to hang your clothes and tea making facilities, with herbal teas.

The entire complex is an oasis of calm inside an otherwise bustling Newquay.

Our sauna experience

We arrived at Saunassa after a 2.5 hour coasteering session – so our muscles were definitely in need of some TLC! (Read more about coasteering in Newquay here).

After a quick briefing, we got ready, locked away our valuables and headed out to the courtyard.

After taking a shower, we tried out the hot tubs, which were heated to slightly different temperatures. Once we’d warmed up in these, I did my first dunk tank, climbing into the frigid water and trying to stay in for as long as possible (I managed about 30 seconds!).

Then, it was time to enter the sauna, which was heated well, but wasn’t unbearable

We resumed the cycle – sauna or hot tub, plunge pool and also took a bit of time in the relaxation area sipping tea.

It was an idyllic end to a day in Newquay!

The 60 minute session passed quickly, and we left feeling incredibly zen.

A rustic outdoor setting with a round, wood-panel hot tub under a clear sky, accompanied by a wood storage area and cozy seating.
